Ebay Inc. is a longstanding American multinational e-commerce corporation. It has been facilitating consumer-to-consumer and business-to-consumer sales through its website since its establishment in 1995. Rumours have quickly sprouted that this global e-commerce pioneer is adopting cryptocurrency payment options. This is due to leaked ad information of Consensus an annual conference of international repute where eBay happens to be a major sponsor. A tweet on May 12, 2019 read, "Leaked from Consensus, eBay possibly announcing the support of cryptocurrencies on their website." - @PatronsOfTheMoon Telegram. #share #bitcoin #cryptocurrency- but no official statement has been made from the corporation yet.
According to a Wikipedia report, eBay is the 10th-largest internet company in the world based on revenue. It has over 14000 employees so far and more than 5 subsidiary companies to its credit. Users of the eBay platform were in large numbers in the USA at inception, as its foundation started in California. The platform now has well over 150 million users that would be open to the option of crypto payments. This will certainly be a stepping stone for wider acceptance of this option for other possible tech giants that may have been lying in wait for others to make the first moves. Although some other model corporations have already begun to explore the crypto space, this eBay addition will definitely be in favour of the cryptocurrency market.
Some popular tech companies like Microsoft, have gone back on their decision to set up platforms for accepting cryptocurrencies for reasons of extreme volatility or insufficient information to go by. This, however, has not stopped the cryptocurrency rally in general.
Crypto enthusiasts will definitely keep an ear out for this development and confirmation of the rumours is stamped by eBay Inc. Notably, a top executive of the e-commerce giant had stated in an interview that eBay is seriously considering the option of crypto payments on its platform. This was in 2017 and since there hasn’t been the slightest follow up as to any development in that light. The glimpse of the possibility has re-emerged now in 2019.
It certainly will be a great addition onboard crypto option for eBay if they see it through this time.
